Siskiyou County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2021 census, the population was 44,118. Its county seat is Yreka and its highest point is Mount Shasta. It falls within the Cascadia bioregion. Siskiyou county borders the California counties of Modoc, Shasta, Trinity, Humboldt and Del Norte.Siskiyou county is in Northern California in the Shasta Cascade. Siskiyou county borders the state of Oregon. Per the 2010 census the population of Siskiyou county was just under 45,000.Siskiyou County is in the Shasta Cascade region along the Oregon border. Because of its outdoor recreation, Mt. Shasta, McCloud River, and Gold Rush era history, it is an important tourist destination within the state.

There are 10 National protected areas in Siskiyou county, including Butte Valley National Grassland, Klamath National Forest and Lava Beds National Monument. Siskiyou county was established in 1852. Named after the Siskiyou mountain range. In 1851 a gold strike near Yreka, generated an influx of prospectors.
Yreka is the largest city in Siskiyou County. Yreka is the county seat of Siskiyou county and home to the Superior Court of California County of Siskiyou court house. Yreka is home to the College of the Siskiyou’s, a public two-year community college. Including Yreka there are 9 cities in Siskiyou county and over 35 census-designated places and unincorporated communities. The largest of these are Mount Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, and Montague.
Siskiyou County is part of the Eastern District of California, U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Siskiyou county is in the Sacramento Division.
The health care, retail, and forestry industries are the biggest employers in Siskiyou county. Tourism and transportation are also large employers.
Interstate 5, which runs through Yreka, is the main transportation route north and south. U.S. Route 97 also provides transportation access north and south from Weed to the Oregon border. State Route 3, 89, 96, 139, 161, 263 and 265 interconnect the remaining communities. There is an Amtrak Station in Dunsmuir.
Highly traveled transportation routes can result in higher than average traffic accident rates. The number of large transportation trucks and forestry equipment can lead to more serious traffic accidents and workplace injuries. The high proportion of employees in the health care section make professional licensing critical to employment. These factors and many others make legal services in Siskiyou county critical.
